I’ve been wanting a cover for my bullet journals for awhile, so I was really looking forward to this real leather portfolio binder. It arrived boxed, then wrapped in a protective drawstring bag, along with an extra circular leather patch with the brand logo (the patch was in its own little bag). It looks just like the product photos, and has that awesome new-leather smell. The front pocket is gusseted, which I love. The pockets for the cards inside the front cover are very snug, as is the pen loop. It’s leather, it will give a bit as it wears in. The inside pockets are all plain leather edges, not stitched, which is a design choice and one that I like, but it’s something to pay attention to. The inside and outside of the binder have all of the raw edges covered with something (wax? dunno; it’s subtle) to finish and protect them. All of the stitching is straight and even. The only real flaw is that the way the front pocket flaps are cut doesn’t work well with having a notebook inserted into the front and back flaps. The corners bend (of the leather; the notebook is not bent at all). If I take the time to hold the leather corner down, it closes fine and stays flat, but I’m not going to be doing that. The “depth” of this binder is listed as 1.5cm. My journal is not nearly that thick, so it feels like a design flaw. Looking at it, it seems that the 1.5cm is not taking into account the gusset. As a result of all that, the front cover ends up overhanging the back cover. The other thing is the lack of a second pocket of any kind in the front. There’s an extra in the back. I would rather have another pocket than the card holders. But that shows very clearly in the photos, so it’s on me that I didn’t pay enough attention to it.It doesn’t stay closed on its own, but that’s another “it’s leather, it’ll wear in” detail. The leather needs to learn its new shape, so I’m not worried at all about that.Overall, I like my new binder. For $60, though, I don’t think I should be encountering the fit error that I am. For someone else who is using the binder differently, it may not be the same issue.
