I have a huge lateral file cabinet that is pretty much stuffed with paperwork. I tend to be a bit of a pack rat, when it comes to important documents. You never know when you might need to access a warranty on an appliance or that article about garden beetles that you filed a few years ago, ya know?Just recently, I was thinking it might be nice to have a small hanging file holder to keep on top of my shelf or tuck into a box for travel. Voila! There was just the thing I had in mind on Amazon. It even matched my other black wire office storage stuff that I already had!The cool thing about this is it comes in four pieces packed in a little flat box that measures just 13 x 11.5 x 2 inches. You take the pieces out, and you find two top/bottom pieces and two sides. I didn’t find any instructions, but you don’t need any. Assembly is so intuitive. You just set one of the top/bottom pieces on a flat surface, insert the two sides (with the mesh) opposite each other, and then slip the other top/bottom into the tubes of the sides. Presto! Instant hanging file holder.I tried it out and found it could easily hold as many as fifty hanging files (empty or minimally filled). If you stuff a lot of papers into your folders, though, twenty or so is probably better, so you can slide them back and forth and see inside.One problem I have with this holder is that it just as easily comes apart as it goes together. If you decide to move it, be extra careful. If you don’t lift it by the bottom ONLY, you’re liable to have the contents of your files all over your office floor. However, as long as it stays put, you’ve got a handy little desktop unit to keep important stuff readily accessible.The other issue is price. While I like this ingenious little holder, I’m not sure there is $20 worth of metal or labor in this thing. If you can get it on sale or find someplace that offers a quantity discount, then go for it. Otherwise, you might want to look for something similar at a cheaper price at your local office supply store.
